Juicing Fennel

Juicing Fennel

Fennel can be a great plant to add to juices, as it adds an aniseed flavour, and can go well with ginger. It can be very useful for the digestive system, as it has a calming effect and can reduce cramps. It has been known to lessen the symptoms of IBS. This is due to the essential oils in the plant, that help to relax the walls of the gut.

Fennel has also been said to be great for women who suffer wih the symptoms of the menopause or any pre menstrual issues. This is down to the compounds found in fennel, known as phytoestrogens. These compounds are very similar in chemical structure to the female hormone oestrogen, and so can be used to help regulate oestrogen levels and lessen the symptoms of these conditions.

Fennel is also known to release “feel good” chemicals, known as endorphins into the blood stream. These chemicals have been known to lessen the effects of anxiety and can help relieve depression.
